The first thing you notice when you step into Hotel Jakarta Amsterdam is the lush greenery and bamboo walkways that lead to the guestrooms.

There is a beautiful wellness facility that has views of the IJ river on one side and the indoor garden on the other. I come here for a swim and sauna anytime I feel like I need a mini vacation.

And of course, there is a café and restaurant that serves authentic and fusion Indonesia cuisine all day long.

You can’t get more central than Hotel V Nesplein. This stylish hotel with a rustic twist (think chandeliers and exposed ceilings) is located in the center of Amsterdam city center, around a corner and down a quiet street from Dam Square and the Royal Palace.

Hotel V Nesplein’s own tagline is that “you get to be an Amsterdammer among Amsterdammers” and I have to say that they’re right.

My Amsterdammer couple friends frequented Hotel V Nesplein for staycations during our COVID-19 lockdowns. The Lobby Nesplein restaurant is a favorite brunch place for locals. I love eggs benedict, and theirs definitely lived up to my expectations. Do make a reservation though. This restaurant can get very busy.

  • Neighborhood: De 9 Straatjes (The 9 Streets)
  • Google rating: 4.5/5
  • Booking.com rating: 8.9/10

Also on the Herengracht canal in De 9 Straatjes neighborhood, the Hoxton is buzzy and popular with locals. While it might not be one of the traditional romantic hotels in Amsterdam, it’s perfect for trendy, on-the-go couples.

The building was once home to the mayor in the 17th century – Amsterdam’s Golden Age. Today, the hotel has a mid-century modern feel, rooms with canal views, brass chandeliers, and hardwood herringbone floors.

Lotti’s Restaurant downstairs is a great place for brunch, lunch, dinner, coffee, and cocktails! It’s chic, attracts all of the locals, and has outdoor seating on the canals. I’ve been there myself for everything from coffee breaks to business meetings to girls brunches.

With the first ever Hoxton in Shoreditch, London, and the first US Hoxton in Williamsburg, New York, it’s easy to understand the vibe and appeal. Couples who love the big city will love it here.
