Photo Gallery: Canada

A collection of photos taken over time from the country my heart so fondly calls home—Canada.

There’s really no place like it on earth and I sometimes can’t believe my luck that I was able to grow up here. As far away as I may wander, Canada will always be my home.

    Hi Grace!

I’m planning on leaving Vancouver this year to live in Europe, in the Country I was born (so, I have Dual Citizenship, but the country is not in the EU) . Can you let me know if there was anything specific you had to do with regards to letting the CRA or anyone know you didn’t plan on being in the country for +183 days, and don’t know exactly when you would return? Want to make sure I do everything properly, even without a specific return date, but all I’m finding online is with regards to going to the US.

    Thank you!

Hi Vera, congratulations on taking leap and leaving Vancouver! Regarding leaving, just give the CRA, as well as MSP, a call to let them know that you plan on leaving BC indefinitely. Note though, that as a Canadian citizen, you’re responsible for filing taxes with the CRA regardless of whether you’ve had Canadian income in the past tax year or not. From your message I gather you’re going to the US? The US has tax treaties with Canada so look into that to make sure you’re not double-taxed. If you plan on returning to BC, you can call the CRA to let them know you’re back, or with your next tax return, they’ll know you’re back in the country. Regarding MSP, you can get back on the program once you’ve lived in BC for 3 months.

Hope this helps and good luck with your move! If you have any more questions, please feel free to send me a direct message.

      Cheers!
      Grace
